Lately I've been seeing jumping spiders along the outside of my house in the afternoon. I've kept a pet jumping spider a long time ago and thought I might give it a try again. There are many different variations of colors and they're actually more interactive than you might think. They are more complicated to keep than ants though because the only way I really know how to feed them without buying food for them is by catching flies in your house. If they eat ants then I could use it as a population control for my Nylanderia Flavipes colony, but they are just generally fun to keep and cute. If anyone has any tips about keeping these tiny creatures then be sure to say because I'm thinking of keeping one.

Flies are really easy to trap. Look in my mantis journal for a photo of a really simple trap you can make with a plastic water bottle and some smelly bait.

I will. I'll make a journal with my jumping spider hopefully tonight. Question. Is it okay to bring my jumping spider with me to Tennessee if I don't set it free? I don't have anyone to take care of it.

Jumping spiders are awesome. I wait for this time of year to see them come out and hunt. They are so inquisitive and alert. The native species here that I like to keep for their impressive size is Phidippus audax.

Can I bring a jumping spider with me to tennessee and back if I don't set it free? No one can take care of it while I'm gone (not that they'd know how) Also, I finally caught one! I've named him Buddy and he has some cool orange coloring on the front of him (pictures soon) For his/her setup, I've decided to mix it up a bit. I've collected more than one ants canada test tube portal, and I thought, why not use one? They have good ventilation and is the perfect size for Buddy because he is small. I put some dirt in, and than moss and one rock and it looks really cool, and a perfect very simple setup for a jumping spider. I'll update and maybe even make a journal about him.

They are not regulated like ants because they are not considered plant pests. Don’t ask, don’t tell.

That's good to know, but I maybe left the lid open by accident and let him escape. Maybe I'll find another one in Tennessee.

Jumping spiders are great pets. They can even be tamed to jump onto your hand. Some jumpers that I kept actually enjoyed snuggling in my loosely closed hand on cold days!
