There are no fire ants in New Jersey, for now at least. This is a Lasius parasite queen. Go to the full post

Hello again, everyone. Is this a fire ant? If so, should beginner like me attempt to care for her? 

 

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Under a rock on dirt near, next to parking lot
2. Date of collection: 6/5/23
3. Habitat of collection: Under a rock
4. Length (from head to gaster): 10
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Red
6. Distinguishing characteristics: N/A
7. Distinguishing behavior: None
8. Nest description:  N/A

9. Nuptial flight time and date: N/A
