I caught a Camponotus nearticus queen around a week from now, she has been doing great the first 2 days I caught her but she started pulling on the cotton which made me think she might be infertile but I thought it was too early to tell. She was being housed in a test tube covered with a transparent red film, I use this red film for all my ants and it seemed to have the desired effect. I thought that maybe the queen was stressed because of the light (she was kept a bit close to my night light) even if she was covered with a red film, so I decided to put her in a box just in case. I checked on her a day later and she wasn’t pulling at the cotton anymore but immediately started doing it again after I watch her for a few minutes, since then I left her alone. If any of you have kept this species before can you give me some tips? Is there anything I’m doing wrong?
