Since forum member FelixtheAnter posted pictures of his awesome myrmecophile beetles, I have become really interested in the subject.

And there is a new wonderful book out, which I have bought today for my tablet- all about ants and symbiosis (parasitism, mutualism and commensalism).

It is 500 pages, so should keep me entertained for a while.

It is written by my childhood hero Bert Hölldobler (who did teach at the university closest to where I am from and I actually skipped school a few times to go to his lectures).

And there are so many wonderful macro-photographs of ants and their parasites / mutualists / commensalists.

Think I will get stuck in right away.

 

Anyone else has read this book yet?

Interesting topic! I was aware of Bert Hölldobler from his collaboration with E.O. Wilson on the Ants and Journey to the Ants.

It is a great book, also providing some great pictures.

I fully recommend it, even if it is a bit pricey.

But I think there is no other book on the market looking into so much detail at the animals that live together with ants- be it as parasites or mutualists.

I read this book this summer and loved it. There are so many strange relationships and interactions that are just mindblowing and the photography is excellent.
