We’ve just had some huge rains, wondering if it’s still too early for ants to start flying around here.

In socal, rain doesn't really matter if you're not in the desert. Just usually a night after a day of 83+ weather and they'll be queens. Usually it would have started, but way too cold.

I thought there would be maybe some Camponotus flights probably not. Maybe if it gets hot after the rain. Since I happen to live near Chaney trail I might just check it out. If I get no queens then at least I get a hike.

Early Camponotus are not triggered by rain. They are merrily triggered by a spike in night time temps. Just go out when temps hit an abnormal high. There won’t be much to catch for a bit. I would guess that we’ll be getting Camponotus flights in mid March.
