I finally got my hands on my favorite species! I have been searching for these little yellow ants for years and despite being recorded in Maryland I never found any. I decided to buy some from Stateside Ants and they arrived in perfect condition. This colony has three queens and about fifteen workers. They have a decent pile of eggs, larvae, and pupae. I fed them some sugar water and took some videos for an upcoming YouTube video. After that I let them rest in their incubator for a day and then took them out and fed them some fruit flies. I was quite surprised when I compared Lasius brevicornis with Lasius neoniger to find that brevicornis was much smaller. I believe that the workers will get larger as the colony matures. I can’t wait to watch this colony grow!
