Hi y'all,

I found a colony of these myrmecine (?) ants today in an oak forest in a heavily decayed piece of wood in western tennessee. Any ideas what that might be? Its not super visible from the photos but the abdomen is very bright, almost silverish compared to the rest of the body

thanks!

Aphaenogaster, someone else is sure to know which species.

Tennesseensis

Fulva is the other option but this would be very bright for the species, but pictures of live workers will easily distinguish the two

The more I look at the ant on the left the more I think fulva (straight spines, raised mesonotum)

Yeah, definitely fulva. Shorter propodeal spines, raised mesonotum, general sculpture and glossiness is different.
