I would encourage you to follow the guide posted at the top of this subtopic, as for all we know that could be modoc based on your location.

It literally says upstate NY in the title? Modoc also looks very different from pennsylvanicus.I would encourage you to follow the guide posted at the top of this subtopic, as for all we know that could be modoc based on your location.found under bark in a dead tree with a few workers

True, i did not see NY in the title, but it would have been nice if he did follow the guide. As for modoc looking different, i believe it depends on regions. Antwiki says: "There is a considerable amount of variability in all characters and these 2 taxa can be nearly indistinguishable."
