Found a queen Liometopum occidentale that I put in a test tube last week and she laid about 50 eggs so far. Big first brood which is common for this species.
Solid start, Now we let her sit for weeks.... Cheers Queen
Nice! Liometopum grows really fast so have fun watching them before they turn into a multi-hundred worker, food machine colony while you can!

I have a colony of Liometopum luctuosum with 10 queens. A very aggressive ant species that easily chews through materials such as screening.

Nice that is cool They are an easy and quick growing species from what I have seen and researched.
They grow quick and lots of colonies around my mom's house so I frequently find the queens.
10 queens is a little excessive for a captive colony IMO. Especially with how fast this species grows, but still cool!
You got a topic with your colony? Would be curious to see.

liometopum luctuosum are polyginous?
I believe they are highly Poly. Accepting workers and brrods of different colonies found great distances apart.
Looking good!
Unfortunately, this queen passed away. I suspect she she got some honey on her legs and that made her stick together and lead to compications.
But I am just speculating. Sad all the same!
I will see if anyone has a queen or small colony for sale and try again.
