On June 5th I received a Pogonomyrmex rugosus colony from antopiausa.com. When they first arrived they were in great shape and were moving around a lot in the test tube.
This was them when they first showed up

As of July 18th my P. rugosus colony now has four workers plus the queen. I find that they LOVE dandelion seeds but not any other seed I’ve offered.
What I’ve offered
Dandelion seeds (they love it)
Millet (no interest)
Flaxseed (no interest)
Chia seed (no interest)
GF bread (minor interest)
Oats (minor interest)

Update, they are up to five workers and have lots of eggs, larvae, and pupae. I already have some different caste sizes, and another worker will enclose any day now.
Sorry for the horrible picture quality

Update:I cleaned out their test tube today and now they have so many workers that it is getting harder and harder to open the test tube without some escapees that have to be rounded up. I also fed my them some dandelion seeds and a chopped roach.
NOTE: Worker count is now six

You should move the test tube in to a outworld

Update: Today I moved their test tube into a tubs and tubes setup. After I unplugged the mouth of the test tube they immediately started to take trash out of their nest. This are the cleanest Pogonomyrmex in the world they put all their seeds in a neat little pile and all of the trash as far from moist cotton and brood as possible.
Here is a pic of them in their new home

Update: My P. rugosus are doing very well in their new setup it does hinder the visibility quite a bit though and every time I uncover the test tube some worker come running out to attack me LOL. I plan on making them a plaster nest soon I just need to get some more materials, here is a pic of them in their current home.image.jpg

So it’s been a month since I’ve updated and the colony is doing well, it’s hard to check on their progress because of the setup but that should be fixed soon when I move them too a new diy gypsum nest.

Ok, I have still yet to move them to a larger nest yet because I’ve been busy and their population did shrink a little but they are still doing fairly well. Other then that things are about the same with these guys.
