I bought a Myrmecocystus mexicanus queen, with brood from Benxixi, it hasn't arrived yet but I wanted to make a journal already because I have high hopes for the queen. She's expected to arrive on wendsday, and if anyone has experience, with founding M. Mexicanus it would be greatly appreciated :)

Heat at 86-89 degrees, checking does not matter as long as you aren't violently shaking your ants

Sadly when I checkup on her today she didn't have any eggs, she is at a stable 88 degrees with no light, able to bleed into her setup, I did give her some nector, and now she is nice and plump 20220724_161848.jpg

Maybe due to stress from shipping? I think ZTYguy may have been onto something…

That really sucks. Looks like something ate her gaster insides or she is just really dehydrated(But she has water). I learned to never buy founding queens when I paid a hefty price for a P. Badius queen and she died after eating her eggs. Honestly I think founding queens should never be shipped, unless the seller is experienced with shipping ants, and very experience with the species. However THA ships their queens surprisingly well because the colonies always arrive with eggs and brood for me, which is surprising being shipped from NC. I got a Camponotus queen(and colony) shipped 80ish miles and she arrived with cocoon shells.(6 shells and 2 workers). I am not saying the seller is responsible in any way, it’s just buyers should really consider risks much more carefully than I do when buying founding queens and delicate species.

Could it be the 88 degrees? That seems high to me as a constant temp.
