What are you feeding your Pogonomyrmex? and General Caresheet info.

I am expecting to get some Pogonomyrmex. I don't have access to my phone right now so I can't be certain. But i think they're rugosus and desertorum. I am also expecting badius in the future.

 

What are you feeding your Pogonomyrmex and where do you get it from?

 

For the rest, I am assuming, sand, heat, no need for sugar water, and insect supplemental diet?

 

Someone should look into making caresheets for Pogonomyrmex. I am surprised there are none.

 

Last. I never realized how many Pogonomyrmex species there are and 99% of them look the same when I google them. If you can rank the top 5, what would they be and why?

In addition to all the seeds mentioned, I’ve had success with earwigs, crickets, grasshoppers, fish flakes, and small pieces of carrots.

I used Tetra goldfish flakes, which I also feed my goldfish with. I’m pretty sure they’ll also take fish pellets, from what I heard from other antkeepers.

I feed honey drops the size of the tip of a toothpick and I put it on a piece of tinfoil the brand of honey I use 20220629_190022.jpg

For only queen, I feed them fresh dead dubia. I feel like they need a lot meat. And keep temp as 27℃-30℃.
They eat very fast. Then keep feed queens meat. Even there are some workers.
But they do like seed also.
Don't be worried about wasting food.

I discovered that my colony loves fruit flies.  They compete over who is going to carry them into the formicarium.  I also found that they ignore peas(cooked) and apples.  They love the fish flakes, but ignore the pond pellets.  That also ignore Bahia grass seed.  They also devoured a dead queen Camponotus.
