Hello I am leaving here on the 25th of June 2022 for a couple of weeks and January 2023 for a full month. I was curious on how everyone else cares/preps for their colonies for these sort of trips before leaving?

Do you leave them with a mate or family member? Or do you prep them up for self sustaining care until you return. The latter is something I am unsure how that would work and is dependent upon the colony size and species one has.

Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated. My colony would be a Aphaenogaster longicep queen with 7 workers.

Cheers!

I suggest getting someone to do frequent checkups, possibly two or three times a week. You can also just get them a large liquid feeder and gut load them with protein up until you are gone (ie. Feeding every single day).

Cheers ZTYguy!

I was leaning towards a mate who could take care of them. Just wasn’t sure what the majority of keepers do 🙂👍
