Does anyone know what time of day these fly? I've had my eyes on a nest (in my siding) but haven't seen any swarming activity. I've been checking in the evenings just because the other Camponotus around fly at dusk, but maybe I'm off base.

Usually late evening and in the middle of the night.

Ah, bummer. I probably missed them then.

I was adjusting the siding around a door I had just replaced and when I popped my removal tool into the upper trim, a bunch of alates came tumbling out. So I put it back in place and have been trying to keep an eye on them. But haven't been staying up at night 😁

I find them on trees from 9pm to 1am. I'm sure that they would still be on trees past 1, but I haven't stayed up that late anting.

I don't know what the weather is like in Michigan but most Camponotus hasnt even flown yet in Maryland area. MAYBE tonight/this weekend for the first few like cast, pennsylvanicus, and chroma. I thought nearcticus flew later? I could be very wrong about that. I have never caught the smaller Camponotus species

Keeps: Camponotus, Tetra

Wants (Please reach out if you have them for sale if you’re in the US): Acromyrmex Sp., Atta Sp., Cephalotes Sp., Myrmecocystus Sp (Prefer Mexicanus), Odontomachus Sp. (Prefer Desertorum), Pachycondyla Sp., Pheidole Sp (Prefer Rhea. The bigger the better. Not the tiny bicarinata), Pogonomyrmex Sp (Prefer Badius)., Pseudomyrmex Sp. (Prefer the cute yellow ones)

I caught nearcticus a little less than a month ago and chromaiodes is the earliest Camponotus to fly.

Yeah the weather has been interesting here. About a week ago it got into the eighties for a couple days but it was bone dry, so I didn't look too hard. Then it rained and went back to 60s for a week. I found a couple random C. pennsylvanicus in afternoons just around the house so some were out at least. Now it's back to 83 but windy and scattered storms so I feel like they won't come out but I'll check tonight.
