Hello,

Does this get hot enough to burn a plastic or wood table?

There was a guy whose closet caught on fire because of one. I'm not sure if it was because of the heat, because it could have been an electrical problem.

Great question. It's essential to be cautious with heat sources. If you're concerned about your plastic or wood table, I'd recommend checking out tortoiseowner.com. They have some fantastic tips on setting up safe and suitable enclosures for reptiles that can help you keep your table and your pet safe.

All sources of heat should be treated as fire potential. But a 15watt heat cable would seem about as low in the odds as you can get to start a fire with, very unliekly to catch thigns on fire itself.

The thing is heat concentrates if you don't have a way for it to dissipate, so even a low power heat source can trigger a fire in closed up/well insulated environments.
It's why you should not store paper/cardboard in dry hot places, just near enough to any source of heat, no open flames needed.

I use a thermostat to make sure things don't get too hot. But i check on it daily, i don't assume 100% safety for use of it while i am away or sleeping.
I use this one as it offers two temperature controlled outlets and one timer only outlet all in one.

No, a 15W heating cable doesn't burn anything. Mine are running 24/7 (except for hibernation season).

As long as you don't place it in a way that allows heat to build up you will not need any additional stuff.

Be careful putting one on carpet. It can change the color of the carpet if its sitting on it for a long time.
