This is horrible.

I left a crack open in the lid of my Camponotus discolor colony and soon noticed ants ... exploring my room. Maybe 20 ants had escaped from the colony of about 500... So I got my trusty aspirator and started collecting them.

Getting them back in the container was hard so I put the aspirator in the fridge to make them easier to dump. I connected the hose to the pipe to keep them from getting out.

When I took them out of the fridge I saw ANOTHER escapee!

quickly I prepared the aspirator and ---

ugh.

I got an ant in my MOUTH.

I removed her and she was alive, but looked miserable.

I was miserable too.

She had crawled into the hose while in the fridge.

I put her on a paper towel and she seemed OK.

But I'm going to die from disgust.

LMAO

worst ant experience EVER

Wow, the closest time I had an ant in my mouth would be when there was an ant on my toothbrush, luckily I saw it and took it out of my mouth just before the ant decided to tack a dip in my saliva.

I've accidentally inhaled some Nylanderia workers before. Didn't realized the mesh in the aspirator was nonexistent.....

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

What the, arn't Prenolepis usually have butts filled with insect guts (I read that they don't usually carry sugary foods in them). Did they...taste good?

I would eat ants cause of the taste. They tasted very sweet.
