hi everyone! i was just walking home around 20 minutes ago and i saw this (sorry for the horrible picture), it is a cluster of tiny ants but i did not see any winged ones, my question is, should i go back in a few hours ? I'm no sure if they are getting ready to fly, or just came out for the sun, thanks for all the help

Where are the ants? Is it all that brown stuff, or is that just dirt?

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Looks like Tetramorium having a territorial battle. No species except Prenolepis imparis flies this early, and that clearly isn't it.

If your in NYC then you’ll probably find Tetramorium queens in early-mid June.

My favorite queens/colony’s:
Pheidole Tysoni, Selonopis Molesta, Brachymyrmex Depilis, Tetramorium Immagrians, Prenolepis Imparis, Pheidole Bicirinata

I think when queens are starting to fly, the workers are a bit more spread out, unlike when they are fighting.

Been keeping ants since January of 2021
