Welcome to my journal on my Dolichovespula maculata queen! I caught this queen on 4/10/2022 at 6:28 P.M. under a log here in beautiful Grand Rapids Michigan. According to what my friends have told me no one has kept this wasp species that is also known as the "Bald-Faced Hornet". Since no one has ever kept I unfortunately do not know what they need but from what I've seen on bug guide their nests are made in trees, so I decided to gather some pine, twigs and cardboard and quickly throw together a nest for her. I realized though that I had a problem... That was that I have no wasp nest to give the queen to start with and she doesn't seem to want to build a nest. Maybe I'm just being impatient but I'm very worried that maybe this species of wasp needs another wasp colony's empty nest to start laying. Any help and information on what I should do would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading the beginning of this journal!P1013931.JPG P1013935.JPG P1013936.JPG

Are you sure she needs a bigger nest? Because online I see videos showing paper wasps using the nest the same size and being ok.

Different species have different requirements to survive.

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

That's definitely true. I'm just being cautious about everything because nothing is known about how to keep these wasps in captivity so I'm venturing completely into the dark. I will try these things though. Although bigger nest will be much more difficult to do.

One thang lerd from keeping paper wasps is to take the queen out turn the Cage on the side then glue some cared borde in the back of the Cage on the roof then add the queen back in with a water dish and a honey dish
And ofer here bug like caterpillars crickets every day and more when there are lava
