On July 25th I caught a native Tetramorium queen. Not sure if she is spinosum or hispidum, but either way they're functionally the same.

I fed her roughly 1-2 times a week, with a mix of termites and fruit flies. She's a great hunter, and has raised a pretty sizable first generation. Today her first worker eclosed, and she has 4 more pupae with several larvae and eggs as well. 5 nanitics is certainly good, especially for a small queen like her.

A few days ago I moved this colony into a Mini Formisquarium to test the design and well, because I don't really like keeping ants in test tubes past founding. Since then 2 more workers have eclosed and the queen has laid a few more eggs. My fruit fly culture dried up so I've had to resort to crickets, which they don't seem too enthused with. They definitely seem to thrive off of tiny food items that they can easily carry back to the nest, since aside from one small leg the cricket seems to have gone mostly untouched. That aside they do still seem to be enjoying their nest, although despite being mini, these ants are too, and they still barely take up any space in it.
