I am a beginner at ant farming. I recently acquired a Myrmecia Desertorum Queen.
Her name is Ms Mecium. She dislike mealworms, but like kiwifruit and Honey.

My parents bought me an antfarm in the 70s. Since we didn't know how to find a Queen, my present went to waste. I felt ashamed. We had no internet in those days, no way of knowing.

I love the look of Myrmecia I think they are beautiful and elegant.

I am now retired and look after my baby Queen.

Also have carniverous plants, chilli plants and cacti.

I study philosophy too.

Peter

welcome to the forum! I am jealous of your ants because Myrmecia look soooo cool. I would be a good idea feed her crickets and other feeder insects because as far as I know kiwi and honey do not have proteins in them which your queen needs to found. And I am so sorry about what I am about to say but its antkeeping not ant farming. Again I'm sorry. Good luck with your queen!

Welcome! its great to see another Aussie ant keeper! Might be harder to collect other state ants being in WA tho.

Myrmecia Desertorum Queens require sugars (drop of honey/sugar water in a shallow dish), brood requires protein. Queen will take some protein her self too. She will lay eggs, after that they will hatch and you can tell once the little pin head sized eggs have a blackish dot in the middle of them. that's food in their stomach.

that's time to start with some protein. Part of an insect will do.

Best of blessings to you and welcome to the world of ant keeping! Happy holidays!

Welcome! It’s great to see this resurgence of Australian ant keepers, especially since we are just starting winter here.
