Has anyone used Creatures Sand from PetCo as substrate? I am trying some in a few test nest and I cannot tell how the ants are feeling about it.

I like the white color for contrast but unsure if there is something in this they do not like or if I have not put the right species in this type of substrate.

Are there any other safe substrates which can provide viewing contrast for smaller species?

You can use reptile sand, aquarium gravel/sand.
If your not sure if its safe for your ants, give it a wash then bake in the Oven on 180 for 30-45mins.

Only natural stuff should be baked and must be wet but not soggy. No artificially coloured stones or plastic for obvious reasons.

If you use sand from outside, give it 2-5 washes and then bake.
