*edit* days later I realize for the first time I somehow posted this in the wrong forum, sorry!

 

I didn't even think this was a queen until I saw her up close, but I still can't see the potential wing area closely enough to know for sure. I have no idea what this body shape is otherwise haha.

Caught today early afternoon in southern CT.

Suburban habitat, a variety of large tree species around in yards, but she was crawling along a pool deck area.

Size is about 3.5mm.

that looks like a camponotus worker to me

Yeah its a camponotus worker, probably camponotus nearcticus.

Holy cow! I can't believe every other Camponotus I've been observing when visiting this yard has been a different major caste. Or perhaps those were all c pennsylvanicus and these are the first nearcticus workers I've seen. Gorgeous, so much more lozenge shaped and shiny than penns
