Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

So for a reject would I just collect her and cross fingers or likely a wasted effort?

Its probably infertile, but if you have test tubes to spare, might as well give it a go, its always possible a bunch of colonies sent out rejects and they mate.

Yeah I have test tubes galore. I also thought this a good opportunity to test out my Mini Hearth. So giving it a spin for a bit to see how things go. Thanks for the information!

i wouldn't put a single queen in a mini hearth. Wait for her to get workers and then move them in.

well Pogonomyrmex do great in mini-hearths as single queens unless they are vertical.

1X Solenopsis molesta 10 Workers (mono)

Vertical (Nucleus style) works as well, for me at least.

I put her in the nucleus style Mini hearth just to figure out how to use it really. She is just hanging around upside down in there. Still no high hopes for this one since she is several months behind schedule for being out.

She is starting to frequently explore the upper outworld. Is this expected or part of the issue with her status or using this mini hearth over a tube setup?

Unmated queens anxiously roam about. What you want to see is her settling into some corner to start her motherly duties.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

Yeah, that is what I was suspecting. I think I'm going to just bite the bullet and let her back out into the yard.
