This is fantastic news! I believe I have 2 of these, so hopefully one makes it through phase 1. Thanks!

I concur. This almost looks like pilifera, but would need better lighting to confirm.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I am working on getting a better lighting setup and ordered a macro lens as was recommended in a previous post. Regarding her being Pheidole, I have 2 found a week apart in the same area. When would it be safe to possibly join the 2 queens? The first already has some brood but this one was found tonight? Sorry for asking in this thread, was about to make a post elsewhere but this response excited me.

Thanks this is perfect. I have now captured roughly 5 of these queens. I'm hoping at least 1 makes it all the way. I noticed I was seeing these specifically at night which now makes sense.

A very fun species to keep. Check out my Phatheads journal on them for pointers. I’m working on an overdue update.

That was a good read. I am really hoping one of these queens succeeds. We just had a rain shower, so ill likely be out trying to find a few more possible queens once it gets dark. Sadly my house will not be getting to 90 degrees to speed the process lol
