Has anyone had dreams of ants?

Last night I had a dream, and in that dream, my wife and I lived in my childhood home.   I was in the basement and noticed these hamster-sized, easter-egg colored ants scurrying up the stairs.   About a dozen.   They made a "PING" sound like a little kids tricycle bell to communicate and were pretty fast.

I was trying to catch them to put them into a container before my wife found out about them... I failed.   So my wife and I hunted these massive ants, mostly unsuccessfully because our house, as in real life, was a clustered mess.

So ants who made a "DING" sound that were the size of hamsters.  In the dream I didn't even know where I would keep them but I was determined to figure it out...

Anyone else have ant-related dreams???

Yep. In one, I was camping, and was on an evening walk. I found 3 Formica aserva queens, 2 Camponotus queens, and a Prenolepis queen. Great dream...

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I get dreams about my ants at least once a week. It will either be me going to some weird place to catch some species or I'll have another dream where something will like happen to my ants that causes them to die

I’ve had nightmares of my Cremstogaster mega-colony escaping. Not fun.

Man you guys have LEGIT dreams of your ants!

I also have dreams, once a month or so, where I go into my basement and it's just FILLED with aquariums-like pet store style.   IN each tank there are so many fish, all separated by species and none of them have been cared for since the last time I dreamed about them so I spend the entire dream tending these dozens of tanks and wake up all stressed out because I couldn't finish before I woke up.

I've never dreamed about my isopods, which is odd because I have 35 species.   I thought they'd be more relevant to my unconscious mind.

Also dreaming of 'having a successful colony' is the saddest thing ever!   OMG, you don't have a successful colony, Kael??? I feel like those of us without a successful colony need to start a support group.   HAHHAHAHAHA

Unfortunately I don’t. I seem to do everything everyone else does, I think everything is fine, and then BOOM they are dead. Every. Single. Time.

Maybe I carry an anti-ant virus or something.

I had a dream that I was cleaning out the soil in one of my reptile tanks and I found a handful of lasius colonies including this bright yellow queen, and I was ecstatic! Then I woke up lol. Don't know why I dreamt of lasius species in specific lol.

I've a dream that felt really real, in the dream I woke up to check on my Pogonomyrmex colony and their nest was full, when I woke up in real life I checked and was fairly disappointed.

There was a different one where there was some kind of magic or something happening(I forgot a lot of it honestly) but in the middle of it I looked under a small log and found a Strumigenys colony. Then I woke up.

About a year ago I had a really weird one where my Camponotus colony had only 5 workers again, so I cut the head off a mealworm and gave it to them, and the head started walking around and ate all the ants.

One of the worst things is when you have a dream about finding a rare species, either in your area or going on a vacation somewhere else, and then you wake up and realize its a dream. Damn I’ve lost so many imaginary queens to these dreams, like harpagoxenus, atta, dinomyrmex etc…

Too many, having a flight of endemic daceton was a fairly recent one. Every time I wake up right before securing the ant, too.

I've had a handful of these. One of my favorites was a dream about catching a messor cephalotes queen in a park. There was another where I managed to raise a massive colony of carebara diversa that eventually ended up escaping, I’m honestly glad that one was just a dream.

Man I was just telling my isopod friends who were interested in ants that if an idiot like ME can do it, anyone can do it!   I guess I need to change my advice!~   You've always given such solid advice and know how to spell all the Latin and EVERYTHING.   Man.   I'm paranoid now.  Gonna kiss my ants good night, individually, every night now!
