Hey everyone, after weeks of inactivity on my little Pheidole colony i decided to move the soil around i was super careful, i saw a few ants running with brood but they were way less than before, next i saw another ant dragging the queens buddy out of the nest to dump it out and my heart broke, this was my favorite colony

oh noooooooooo I'm so sorry this happened with my pheidole colony and basically every single colony i have ever kept

i lost my fav colony a few months ago it was my precious 70 worker P.occidentalis colony i kept them since January 15 and the queen died

My Camponotus sansabeanus died on the fourth too, from Argentine ants. I'm sorry to hear about your Pheidole.

My Camponotus sansabeanus died on the fourth too, from Argentine ants. I'm sorry to hear about your Pheidole.

You just need to take precautions if your colony is in a setup that the Argentines can slip into, like a pencil case. My colony lived for a year safely in my closet, but once I moved them onto my shelf five feet away the Argentines that lived there killed them off within a day. If your colony is away from their trails and food sources, and if you keep your ant area clean of any food, they have a much lower chance of being attacked. I've seen examples of fluon or moats being used to keep out the Argentines but if I had an issue with them that big, I would just pay more for a secure nest.

my house is surrounded my 2 massive argentine ant colones with maybe 2 smaller ones inside, i cleam up their garbage and left over food ever time i feed them, also what would be a good secure nest

By "secure nest", I mean one that an argentine ant can't slip into. A THA nest or most custom formicaria would be fine, but many people will keep large species like Camponotus and Pogonomyrmex in Daiso pencil case or other formicaria with holes in them.
