The formic acid issue happened with a couple of my Camponotus us-ca02 workers when I made the mistake of keeping the colony in a cotton-plugged test tube (they need an outworld when they get workers).

I now ultimately understand why I lost my Camponotus plantas colony….

Here's the thing though. Not all Camponotus formic acid spray as much as others. My pennsylvanicus are in a plugged test tube at 12 workers and they're fine.

I'm back, how long have i been gone?
Well, I'm posting this because i have found another odontomachus queen and she is currently living in a test tube with some dirt and water, i am unsure where to place her but i will take suggestions for her enclosures as i have a very old enclosure with little to no stuff in it that i havent ever used and a spare 3 gallon fishtank without a lid, i also have some air drying terracota clay which i plan on using to create the formicarium,

The test tube with dirt should last her for at least a month or so. Wouldn't recommend creating the formicarium until there are at least a dozen workers. Are you feeding her anything? Many on this thread have said that they need bits of protein while founding to survive. Prekilled termites and pinhead crickets should work best.

God I hope two years was enough for him to gain enough knowledge to keep these ants.

She laid a single egg, that's it, that's the update
I also found out that you don't put insects directly in the test tube, you just give her a nice big foraging area and add the insects there

I generally don't understand what the name of this journal is. This journal has had at least 10 different ant species in it with almost none being a success beside the Camponotus colony. Try to keep only 1 species of ant for a year before you get more ant species. This principal was told to me when I was on the antscanada forum as a beginner. It helped me A LOT. Its sad honestly you get the rarest ants but can't properly take care of them due to all sorts of reasons. Really though, try to put all your effort into one colony for a while.

BEST JOURNAL EVER

I’m a beginner ant-keeper too. I wish you good luck with the new queens.

Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.

This journal really needs to be adapted into a movie. It's the gift that keeps giving. With the plot twist of Idontexist returning, hopefully in a more matured and battleready state, there's no no knowing what will happen next. The quadruple posting still remains an issue, but he's sorting it out I'm sure. ANTdrew has made this journal 10x better ;)

Cut him some slack lol, he didn't do as bad as a lot of other new keepers I've seen. Antkeeping isn't for everyone, maybe he's just searching for hobbies.
Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.
