I was just wondering is it actually possible to start an ant colony via a gamergate, there are some species like Diacamma and Dinoponera that reproduce solely on gamergates.

Began antkeeping in 2018  :)

I've never thought about that. I guess its possible, because how else would they reproduce? Really interesting question there.

Ants are Pets, not Pests.

Couldn't they do colony fission, where half of the colony leaves the other half with the gamergate and wait for a male to come and turn on of them into a gamergate?

Gamergate species usually reproduce by fission i think, and can’t found independently. The best thing to do is collect a established colony.
