An artificial mating flight in China

This report is of a artificial mating of tetraponera rufronigra. Unlike most matings in captivities, the drone and princess come from two different colonies.

In terms of the actual mating, the drone and princess were put together at 9-10 AM when they were unusually active. There was a screen for air at the top. The container was placed outdoors with some humidity.

I will definetely try to replicate this success with some US species.
