honestly id just use a test tube until she gets workers, its a lot easier in general lol

They get disturbed easily and I wouldn't recommend it, every time you check on the queen or fill up the water tower, she is likely to eat her eggs. A test-tube placed in the dark, undisturbed for a whole month works almost every time. After the founding stage, Formica are much less likely to eat their brood and are calmer overall.

Also be sure to put some sand in the tube to help larvae spin their cocoons.

Thanks. I will be sure to use your advice. I ordered a mini hearth anyways though, for when she gets workers.

the mini hearth will be great for them once she has at least 10 workers.

I suggest that you use a test tube as you won't have to refill the water and the queen will be cozier in the smaller space. Also, I don't think she'll need any sand in her tube.
