First queen of the 2021 season for me!

My guess is some sort of Camponotus, but I'm not good at ant IDs so I'm not sure. And is she even a queen?

1. Location of collection: Sunnyvale, CA

2. Date of collection: April 2, 2021
3. Habitat of collection: My backyard, under a piece of wood with leaf litter all around
4. Length: 13 - 14 mm
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: Dark brown/black/reddish body, dark red/orange legs
6. Distinguishing characteristics:
7. Anything else distinctive: N/A
8. Nest description: N/A

9. Nuptial flight time and date: N/A

I did kind of squish her, but she seems to be okay-ish now. Hope she survives.

Note: Sorry for the bad pics. I can try to get better ones if needed

She indeed looks like a Camponotus queen, likely in the Myrmentoma group. Nice catch!

Could it possibly be colobopsis yogi? The head seems a little truncated.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Congratulations.  It looks just like the two queens I collected in Los Altos a few days ago.

I'm also in Sunnyale.  Lets go anting sometime!!
