So, when I first joined, it was after catching this pretty lady. I’ve had her since September and... well, no brood. I’ve seen her with eggs, but...

Just put a dead fruit fly in the test tube with her, don’t know if she even can eat it but I just feel bad for her. At this point, is there any hope?

Probably either infertile or a dud. Maybe put a bunch of dirt or sand in the tube and forget about her. Sometimes that kick starts them for some reason.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

She’s almost out of water, so I’ll have some sand in the new tube when she decides to move into it.

Alright, so I put some Sunburst into the test tube, soaked it into a piece of cotton so there wouldn't be a puddle she could drown in. Here's what I saw when I got home though!

So, she has a dead fruit fly, Sunburst, on a heating pad, and in a second test tube (one that has a refresh of water) is an amount of white sand. Is there anything else I can do to try to help her out?

Are those eggs under her? I'm not sure there is anything else you should do at this point. If you notice her getting skinny I would just get her some sugar. Provide her with protein when she has larvae. I think that's about it, though.

that's a dorymyrmex species. Dorymyrmex don’t do well with constant disturbances, and like to be left alone in my experience.

Also its the best ant genus, so i really hope you can experience their greatness.

I moved her into a mini-hearth as she wasn't moving into the other test tube. She's staying around the dried discolored cotton that was by her water before it dried up. I've got it in the outworld, I'm hoping she decides to move into the nesting chamber but whatevs. There's one of the red shields over the nesting chamber glass, so she'll be more insulated there. I don't know if i should move the cotton down there or not - it seems like it would be a huge mold risk to do so. But, she has a small about of Sunburst and a single dead fruit fly. She has some eggs with her, which she's keeping under the cotton for now.
