I recall finding a Pheidole queen at school, and having no container available. Since I knew it was small enough that it's bites wouldn't hurt, I put her in my sock, and she surived like that for over a hour. However, I wouldn't recommend this with Formicine queens, as those are generally much easier to squish. In fact, I wouldn't recommend it all, but it can work. :D

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Today I used a soft paintbrush and just kinda kept sweeping the ants into the tube and it worked out well. Not sure if I got lucky or if it's a good way.
