Found this Temnothorax queen at a park today. Any chance I could get it down to the species. Also what are the odds it's fertile.

I'm stumped on this one. Can we get a length for the specimen? Chances of being fertile are low, but not non-existent.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Habitat found would help a lot too. Was this found in the ground, or on/in a tree?

Temnothorax obliquicanthus seems to be the most likely species. Can't be sure until good side profile photos are shown.

I almost want to say neomexicanus but I think Temnothorax obliquicanthus or longispinosus (although small spines can only be seen) might be a possible contender as well. If only the wings were not in the way of the petiole and thorax section. A close up on the head and eyes might help as well. I always have trouble identifying small species.

I'm 99.99% sure it is either obliquicanthus or arboreus.

No, but that, upon inspection, is probably what it is. Would explain the strange flight time.

Only species based on color that fits is S. diecki.

Actually, he said this queen is 5mm, and diecki queens are 3.7mm, so I guess unless there is some serious color and size variation in Stenamma, it is Temnothorax.

So she has six teeth and therefore is not temnothorax. Any ideas what sp she is?

I know color is not a great ID method, but from my understanding most Stenamma besides diecki and snellingi have far lighter queens, so I'm guessing it is one of those two.
