Well since this thread has been revived, I'd like to share something that happened yesterday:

It had rained the day before and the weather was perfect for anting. So I take an aspirator, some vials, and a couple of test tubes. kneeling on the side of the sidewalk when a wasp that appeared to be the size of a frickin humming bird flew right in my face. Luckily, it was not actually that big (only looked that way because it was two centimeters away from my face) and it was a cicada killer not a wasp (luckily I'm pretty sure cicada killers aren't dangerous even though they have a menacing name). I ended up tripping and rolling around like an idiot. I got myself together and continued to catch queens. a few minutes later, some random car honked at me. It scared the life out of me and for the second time in 10 minutes, I found myself tripping around and looking like I was trying to do Michael Jackson moves. by the time I was back on my feet I decided to take the queens I did catch home because my brain at that point felt like it was doing backflips.

Also, as I'm typing I am being eaten alive by mosquitos that manage to get in the house.

Been keeping ants since January of 2021

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

I know this post has been dead for a while.

But

I was trying to catch a C.pennsylvanicus colony the queen had 2 workers in a park with a C.pennsylvanicus population in Daytona Beach. This old man came up to me and gave me a lecture about how ants bite(it's none of your business SIR). But he continued. When he left I turned around to find the colony and packed up and left. It was sad and embarrassing. But I was more angry.

Dang that can suck when the colony leaves before you can collect it. The old man was probably trying to keep you safe but it is none of his business.

"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

It was sad because they were one of the few thriving C.pennsylvanicus populations in Florida. And we doon't go there any more because we don't live in Orlando any more.
