Looks nice, like a mix between 3d printed and tar heel ants.

Nice work! What printer do you use? I like your hooks to hold the heating cable. I'm building something similar, but I think I'll use grout minimally.

I don't know much about 3d printing. Could I get this 3d printed somewhere cheaply or is it not cost effective to print these without a 3d printer?

I would suggest not using PLA for formicariums, especially if it comes in contact with water. After year or two PLA will start crumbling.

Yeah I do plan to use stronger materials for final versions.

You can find 3d printing services on places like ebay, not sure about price though.

Local libraries offer 3d printers for use. Although IDK with the pandemic issues if they're still freely available for use.

Really? but wouldn't it take a long time to print the formicarium? also, what would they think if you printed a box, asked you what its for and you say ants lol

Your printer might be having some extrusion issues, but that nest looks really good!

1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers

1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers

1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers

Hi Cocdeshijie(sorry if i spelled it wrong,) how often do you use a 3d printer, and how useful is it? would you recommend it for homemade formicariums or other nests?

Haven’t you already been given that look by strangers when your searching/catching queen ants? Every time I go out to catch wasps/ants there are people who look at me like I’ve gone mad. lol

It didn't help that once there was a party in my neighborhood and I found a queen at my friends house, and I had it in my hand and my dad yelled "What's in your hand? An ant?" So there. Some public embarrassment. At least my parents are supportive of it tho.
