This is the main problem for me here. Bought several brands, all of them smell really nasty. Washed and run water through for 30mins. Nothing change, It still smells nasty as before. Dish soap only masks the odor for few days.

There is no food grade vinyl tubing here where i live. Silicone tubing is too expensive for me. It costs 10-15x more than vinyl tubing. 30cents/meter for vinyl tubing and 4bucks/meter for silicone tubing (food grade).

I tried to give more distance for my Iridomyrmex anceps (long time ago). Plug the two meters tubing and left them for four hours (more or less) and when i came back, a lot of them were fainted. I used the same tubing brand before but it's only around 15cm and there was no problem.

Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks!

That's the problem here too. Hardware store s only sell the cheap ones not safe for food. You should check ebay.

I actually am going to need some vinyl tubing at some point, so I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Try food grade silicone tubing.

This works of course, but it is not as clear as vinyl tubing. Food safe vinyl tubing doesn't smell or at least not nasty ;).

A German shop wanted to save some money and bought a lot of cheap vinyl tubing which had this nasty smell. But most ants refused to walk through the tubing due to the smell (and probably because it is also harmful to ants...) So the shop had to recall the tubing and replace it...
