Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

"For these reasons, Tallamy has proposed a domestic version of Havard biologist EO Wilson's Half Earth Project. If American homeowners converted half of their lawn to productive native plant communities, he says, they would create a "Homegrown National Park" larger than the Everglades, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Canyonlands, Mount Rainier, North Cascades, Badlands, Olympic, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, Denali, and Great Smoky Mounts National Parks combined."

that is an awesome idea! why have boring old grass sitting around, when you could attract bees and ants to your yard! i have bee balm and delphiniums that  i bought from a local flower garden that i planted 2 years ago, and they are reproducing like crazy!

Excellent! Why stop there? Keep adding new species next spring.

It is vital to keep in mind that when making these plantings that one should use plants native to the area. A great many of the insect species are host specific.

I tried to get some native milkweed for my yard only to find out after planting it that it was non-native.

Yes, do your research. Contacting local native plant societies or clubs would be a good start.
