so I want to catch a queen ant during the winter, and I found out that a species named Dorymyrmex insanus flies near Los Angeles during the winter months. does anyone have any tips on how to care for them? I haven't found any care sheets for this species. Any tips and help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well one, this species is pretty bad haha. Two, this late in the year you will pretty much find nothing. Just wait until next spring to catch some. Care is pretty much the same as any other species. Just give them sugars and proteins and make sure they are heated.

I found a queen in January or December last year in my pool. She died before getting workers. And she was in a dirt setup.

Species being kept:

Solenopsis "plebeius", Camponotus maritimus, Formica cf. subaenescens, Formica cf. aerata, Lasius cf. americanus, Lasius aphidicola, Lasius brevicornis, Lasius nr claviger, Nylanderia vividula, Temnothorax nevadensis, Temnothorax chandleri, Temnothorax arboreus Solenopsis validiuscula, Solenopsis truncorum, Solenopsis xyloni, Formica perpilosa, Formica cf. lasiodes, Formica cf. neogagates Pogonomyrmex californicus, Pogonomyrmex salinus, and Myrmecocystus testaceus!!!!

Hoping to find this year:

Myrmecocystus, Liometopum occidentale, Camponotus essigi, Camponotus fragilis, Manica bradleyi, Formica perpilosa, Pheidole hyatti, and a Parasitic Formica sp.

People are stupid. It explains a lot...
