Point d) of the rules is also crazy. If you know someone keeping exotic ants in US you are violating their rules too and could be banned.

As a member of AAK I can confirm that I don't spend my whole life searching for illegal ants on the internet and hunting members down. If you don't like not being able to talk about your illegal ants then go to a different discord server or something.

in california, there is no need to keep exotic ants. There is a near endless supply of some of the best ants in the world, and the best variety of ants in the US by far.

I think Florida, Texas, and Arizona, and New Mexico have California beat. I personally think Florida has the best. Odontomachus galore, along with Colobopsis. And the keys have Mycetomoellerius jamaicensis, and Cephalotes varians(best turtle ant in USA IMO)

We could be having constructive conversations and actually provide good criticism, but at this point it's the same exact arguments being thrown around and the exact same rebuttals, which leads into the exact same disagreements with identical people. there's no point in a war that goes no where. If you don't like AAK, then avoid it and don't use it. It can't affect you if it has nothing to do with you. there's no reason to tell people who like AAK to discontinue activities on the server. Same goes for AAK. These people have had negative experiences with AAK, often genuine, so there's no basis in trying to argue against most of these accusations (and doing so gets you nothing). Just take the actually constructive advice/criticism and relay it back if you wish. If I didn't get the point of your argument, feel free to call me out and correct me. Most of the main participants in these threads (And why do we have multiple anyways? They rarely ever stay on topic so there's no point in creating new ones except to grab attention and choke out other threads.) seem, to me at least, absolutely unwilling to budge in their view and completely deaf to the other side's voices. It's just hate being thrown around under the guise of "making things right." If you want to change something you have to be accepting and as impartial as possible. Bias, stubbornness, and ignorance of the opposing motive are the main reason why the world is in such a mess. We shouldn't bring that kinda stuff to this community.

Doesn't change the fact, as I heavily pointed out, discord being so fanatical about it and banning people who have exotic ants that don't even talk about it with anyone on the discord. You may choose to ignore it being an AAK member, but you are actually part of making the underground exotic ant trade worse, because as I said, it just makes every exotic ant keeper lie about having any at all, making the entire situation far worse (especially ecologically) than it otherwise would.

 

Last time I checked California doesn't have Atta, or Cephalotes, or Odontomachus, or polygynous Novomessor, or Acropyga, or Trachymyrmex... not even top 3 for most native species in a state.... yikes. Don't get me wrong, California has fine ants, but c'mon. Y'all really can't compete

California does have Odontomachus or so the records say. My dad has examined the specimens.

Since they aren't rare, but only rarely found. Now I think know what people in California may try looking for next year

the reason they are rarely found is probably cause they are arboreal. I would recommend you guys try twig and branch snapping, which is super effective for colobopsis in the east.
