Would you buy wooden founding formicariums for small colonies, knowing that over time the wood will begin to rot and decompose and you will have to move the colony? (due to this, if i do end up selling these they would be cheap)

I’ve not really decided on a design, so this poll is not really for a specific nest, but mainly for the idea of a formicarium made out of wood

The formicarium would have a acrylic/plexiglass cover, and would be watered through a test tube connected to the outside of the wooden block (this is not definite, but most likely what i will do)

:)

Be careful when you try to post something, if you click it more than once it will post multiple times.

You don't need to sell the formicaria cheap just because they'd decompose over time.  Charge for at least the materials and for labor.

Also, do some testing with the ants in the formicaria before you try to sell them.

if you keep it dry and if it isn't already rotten most ants won't bother chewing through it, even not Camponotus. Of course if the nest is way to small they might start trying to extend it. Cork is another story...

There is a company that sells wooden nests, and according to a video about them, as long as you keep water out of the nest, it shouldn't rot. Even any sort of humidity. That means no water tower even.

there is a type of wood that can be finished, polished, glossed whatever the foranto wood nests make. camponotus cannot chew through those and i'm a really big fan of his nests, i would like to see the design but i may pm you once you start selling them because I most likely will buy those.

I don't like wood nests.

carpender ants do, at least if you surround the nest with liquid rubber.
