i thought cali ants flew year round? is that wrong? it is always warm there.

But since it's always warm when it drops to the terribly cold 60's all the ants and people are like aaaaaah it's too cold. At least that's how it is in San Diego.

Plan on a really big test tube and be real careful with the water!

Yes. Look for them on dark, stormy nights nearest to the full moon.
sorry to inform you that witch flights have passed. they usually fly around oct. 30th, give or take a few days.
I do think there was a witch flight this Friday the 13th... might still be some stragglers if you go looking. you might want to try luring them out with bones/potions. also, listen for cats. witches often have black cats with them.

Hi I'm from kern County, more specifically Bakersfield, does anyone know what species fly out here? I've been having a difficult time finding anything but Argentin ants.

if you have any argentine ant queens, i probably will buy them :) (if you are willing to sell and ship them)
You will be the one and only Argie keeper lol

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

60 degrees is an excellent temperature! Especially when it is foggy and overcast with no wind.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

yeah... might be a little pricey. but it'll be worth it. I've never heard of witch flights before, they must be rare.

i wonder how fast they produce? also, what is the current price for selling these? as you mentioned, they are rare.
