Hello everyone. I'm brand new to ants. Literally ground floor of this hobby. My step-son roped me in when I molded a nest for his first queen that laid eggs (pics to follow on another post). I have been watching his small colony out grow the test tube and once we watched them moved into the new nest, I caught the bug (pun intended, bad dad joke). I think I am more interested in them now than he is!

I have been trying to watch, read and learn from anywhere I can. I landed on another forum that seemed to be somewhat inactive and I stumbled into this forum.

So a little about me. I live in Grand Haven. I'm a paramedic/firefighter by day and about to go back to school for something else. I enjoy the outdoors during summer; fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, takin' the Jeep top-less. Winter time we kind of hunker down, occasionally go sledding, skiing, skating.

Well, I think that about covers the bases. Time to get to more learning.

Welcome! Cool story. I, too, am a father, but my kids are too small to care about ants yet.

Hey! Happy to see another Michigan anter. We have some pretty cool species here, but I have been a bit unlucky. I have some Crematogaster queens that I am hoping will produce thriving colonies next year. Unfortunately, at this time of year ants will start hibernating, so you most likely will not find any queens this year.

Follow my advice for the Crematogaster, and I guarantee your luck will change.
