Hey guys, 

I have been feeding my ants protein mostly, and they have been loving that.  But I should probably get some sugar food and other types of food for them.  I got some honey at the store today, (I'm guessing it's not the most high quality.)   I don't normally have honey because it's pretty high in sugar and expensive, so I made a special trip for my ants.     I got the smallest container I could find, but it's not called honey, it's "Premium Blended Honey Flavored Syrup."  The ingredients are, in this order, corn syrup and honey.  Because this isn't pure honey, do you think I shouldn't give it to my ants?

Can you send a photo of it. You should just get normal honey. Honey with other ingredients takes away it’s main health benefits,

  I obviously wouldn't get this for me to eat, but I thought it might be OK for ants.  If not that's fine too.  It was really cheap, lol.

I personally wouldn’t trust it. It shouldn’t kill your ants but it isn’t as healthy

There is a great value brand that I use and I’ve had it for a couple months and no one has died yet.

Yea. Probably nothing will die. But there aren’t nearly as many healthy bacteria and whatever in processed honey

I would definitely avoid corn syrup because of the high likelihood of it containing neonicotinoid pesticides. Get some organic honey and remember that a tiny bit will last you a long time. Cane sugar mixed in water is fine, too. That would be your cheapest option.

I agree, sugar water is usually the least messy/cheapest option.  The best ratio for ants is 1:3 (sugar to water).  This should supply them with really all the sugar they need paired with a few protein sources.

you could either offer it to them in a drop form, or fill a test tube with it and put a cotton ball in front of it like a test tube setup. they can drink out of that.
