Bought a colony off nurbs, loving these so far. Their large size and interesting habits are pretty cool. This is definitely one of my favorite species. A week or so after I bought the colony, I bought a couple more founding queens. I'm hoping to get some polygenous colonies founded, as there are examples of them being polygenous before. I have 1 colony from last season in a mini-hearth, 4 tubes of single queens (one with wings), and 3 tubes of (hopefully) polygenous double queens. The poly ones have been friendly so far.

Okay Sleepy you need to define "interesting habits"!

And if you see them sneaking out of their formicaria to plug up Pogonomyrmex formicaria with sand, take video.

Love this species, if I could keep any of north American species, it would be these girls.

I'm down to 2 colonies, 1 30 worker and 1 100 worker. I will be acquiring a 500 worker soon. 

 

I hand-built a nest for my 100 worker colony, they moved in overnight and took 5 crickets immediately.

My 30 worker colony is being kept in the nest I got them in, they have a pile of brood but I plan to boost them with pupae from the aforementioned 500 worker colony
