I think it's an ant. Saw it about 10 mins ago crawling up my wall in San Diego, CA. it is in a 16 mm test tube for size reference.
Can anyone tell me which species?

I mean, all you described location, you should read the pinned thread on how to make a ID request. But all I can say is Camponotus spp. or Formica spp.
