From my experience founding these, if a queen has laid eggs she'll lay more again. I've also noticed while founding some queens lay a ton of eggs and then eat some and then lay some more and eat some of those, even with access to normal food.

I have about 100 or so eggs and I know my Pogonomyrmex will not eat them unless in the fridge for a day or 2.

Once I got workers that stopped, it was only during founding. I think the queen realized she couldn't feed all of those eggs.

Mine are warm, hydrated, dark, and have over ten types of seeds plus mealworm to choose from. The rest is in God's hands.

Yeah, I'll have to update this when I have some time in a few hours. Good luck with all your colonies, by the way.

if you don't get more eggs by the time a worker dies I'll refund you, but I bet she'll get laying once she's settled in. It sounds like you're doing everything right.

Update #0005

Saturday, December 19th, 2020

Hello, all. It's been a long time, but Adak is back. Anyways, this colony has done alright over the past two months, resting at around 150-200 workers. I also decided to move them back into their Palladium, as the Station was getting messy, and the ants just seemed to like the Palladium better anyways. I also had some issues with sand getting caught in between the glass and the nest, and creating gaps for ants to stream out onto my table (in the Station, of course). But I was able to control those incidents, a couple months ago. But more recently they have experienced a slight drought, as their water tower ran out. By the time I filled it up some of their brood had died, along with a few workers (but only a few, and by a few I mean less than 5). But now I suspect that they may be slowing down for the winter, as the queen has stopped laying, and the ants aren't foraging as much. When I try to feed them mealworms they ignore them. So I may take them off heat for a month or two... we'll see.

Anyways, here's a video of the colony as of today: https://imgur.com/HgxSHZj

My first attempt at Pogonomyrmex failed. I euthanized the queen last weekend.

If I get any more this coming year I'll ship you a colony for free.

Dang. Small Pogonomyrmex colonies seem to be touchy.
