Hey everybody,
I recently made my first serious formicarium for my ants, which I personally thought turned out pretty good! Although, I have a parasitic lasius colony that I just successfully introduced workers to, and as I was trying to move them in, they didn’t seem to like the nest. The sand lining in the nest was made with sand from a local river. It smelled like fish and a river a little bit, but I didn’t think it would hurt them. Could this be it, or is there a way to clean the sand before I build the nest? Any input is appreciated!

In Jesus,
Jonny

How many workers are there? Because if there’s under 30 then that’s to big for them.
We don’t talk about that

It’s probably not the sand they like substrate but maybe leave it a couple days to air out and also remember ants like tight spaces.
