Looks like one of the smaller urban species. My guess would be Brachymyrmex or Nylanderia.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

A high percentage of these you find around lights aren’t mated. If you wait a while and watch them, you can see males jumping on some of them and doing their thing. These are the ones to collect.

Very fun to keep. Especially once they hit 100 workers. My colony has around 800 workers now, and I have had them for over a year. They, along with my 50 worker Lasius, are my favorite colonies. They are super good hunters, but are good at escaping. A tight fitting lid is a must, as they scale fluon fairly well. Also, always make sure the lid is secure before leaving them. I forgot to a couple times, and I ended up with hundreds of workers on my desk. Not fun.  The key to success with them is a constant supply of sugar water. They like honey too, but can get stuck in it.
