Ouch, stung by a Pogonomyrmex

Hey everyone, today I went to my local park in search of queens. I didn’t find any, but what I did find was a Pogonomyrmex worker that when picked up decided to sting me. This happened at about 11am and as of righting this I’m still in pain, luckily there was a restaurant across the street and I was able to get a cup of ice to put my swollen finger in. I’ve had my finger on ice for about two hours now and its gone completely numb hopefully it gets better soon.😂🤣😨

Here is a pic about five minutes after it stung me. My finger is shiny because of the ice.

Thanks for posting. I have never even considered touching my Pogonomyrmex-- they are very excitable and my impression is when it comes to large vertebrates they sting first and ask questions later. If I so much as breathe on them they start throwing a fit. Totally different from the rest of my ants who seem to like crawling on me for some reason... really even when I go out I always end up with some Lasius, Camponotus or Formica ant crawing on me. My husband says that I attract them.

Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.

I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

My Pogonomyrmex rugosus are pretty calm when I need to feed them I just open their test tube, sprinkle some seed in front of it and let them run around on my desk to collect the seeds.
